I thought that shoving a bunch of pretty flowers in my brother’s mouth would solve everything. I wasn’t interrogating hypermasculinity enough. It was a surface-level attempt to find a solution. Turning him into a girl doesn’t solve anything; it ignores the problem. Maybe I thought swapping his boyhood for girlhood was the right solution.
